How We Look at a Supplement

What earns a product a page here, the four checks every entry goes through, why the catalog is arranged by body system, and the things we refuse to do.

Why the catalog is arranged by body system

Most people do not shop for "magnesium bisglycinate." They shop for sleep, or for a knee that complains on stairs, or for a gut that has been unpredictable lately. So we arranged the catalog the way people actually think: six body systems, each holding a short list of established products that sellers market for that part of the body. The row of system icons on every page is a wayfinding device, nothing more.

That last point matters, so we repeat it on every entry. A product sits under "Heart & energy" because its seller positions it that way, not because we have shown it does anything for your heart. The system label is the seller's claim, attributed to the seller. What we add is the part underneath: what the label says, what the research says at that dose, who sells it, and what it cost on the day we looked. Browsing by system is a convenience. It is not a diagnosis, and it is not a recommendation.

What earns a product a page

We do not cover everything, and we do not chase new arrivals. A product gets an entry only if all four of these are true:

  • It is an established brand. A company with a track record and a real address, a product that has been on shelves for years, and a formula stable enough to be worth documenting.
  • It is sold on Amazon under a listing we opened ourselves. We check the title, the brand, the count or size and whether it is in stock, and we link to that exact listing. We do not link to any other store, including the brand's own.
  • We can read the whole label. If the Supplement Facts panel is not legible on the listing or on the manufacturer's site, there is no entry, because the label is the entry.
  • We can date the price. Every price on this site carries the day we saw it. If we cannot see a price, we do not guess one.

Nothing on this site is a house brand, a private label, or a product we have any stake in beyond the affiliate commission described below.

The four checks, in order

  1. Read the label, line by line

We copy the Supplement Facts panel as printed: serving size, the form of each ingredient (citrate or oxide, peptides or gelatin), the amount per serving, the percent daily value where one exists, and the "other ingredients" list that most marketing ignores. When a headline number and a panel number disagree, for instance "1200 mg fish oil" against a much smaller omega-3 line, we explain which one to read.

  2. Compare the label to the research

We look for human studies on the named ingredient at or near the labeled dose, using primary sources: PubMed and PMC, the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, Cochrane reviews, EFSA and FDA material, and position statements from scientific societies. We say plainly when evidence is thin, mixed or absent, and we keep the difference between "this ingredient has been studied" and "this product at this dose has been studied" visible on the page.

  3. Check the seller and the seal

We confirm the listing is the product we mean, note whether it is sold by Amazon or by a marketplace seller, and check any certification by its exact name. USP Verified, NSF Certified for Sport and Informed Sport are different programs with different directories, and "made in a GMP facility" is a legal requirement, not a seal. A seal is credited only when we found it on the product and, where a public directory exists, in the certifier's own directory.

  4. Date the price

Prices, counts and pack sizes change without notice. Every price we quote is written as an amount on a date, and we never present it as current beyond that day. If the listing you reach shows a different number, the listing is right and our page is old.

What we will not do

  • No lab tests. We do not test products ourselves. When we mention third-party testing, we name the program, or we say that testing status is not disclosed.
  • No medical advice. Nothing here replaces a conversation with a clinician or pharmacist, especially if you take medication, are pregnant or nursing, or manage an ongoing condition.
  • No disease claims. We never say a product corrects or wards off a condition, and we do not adopt a seller's claim of that kind as our own. Where a seller uses such language in a listing title, we leave it out.
  • No testimonials, no before-and-after stories, no urgency. No "readers report," no countdown timers, no "only a few left."
  • No house brands and no direct-seller links. Every product link goes to an Amazon product page. We do not take payment for placement, we do not run sponsored entries, and we do not accept free product in exchange for coverage.
  • No named people. Every page is signed "Your Body Insight Editorial Team." We do not invent a reviewer, borrow a credential, or name the physician behind a branded formula. If a page that looks like ours says "reviewed by Dr. Somebody," it is not ours.
  • No rankings. There is no "best magnesium" list here. Each entry stands on its own label and its own evidence.

How we make money

The site is funded by one thing: the Amazon Associates program. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. When you click a product link and buy on Amazon, Amazon pays us a small commission; the price you pay is the same either way. We are not paid by any brand, and no commission rate has ever decided which products appear or what an entry says about them. The full picture, including what a commission does and does not change, is in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Corrections

Labels get reformulated, counts change, seals lapse and prices move. If you find an error, write to us through the Contact page with the entry name, what you believe is wrong, and where you saw the correct information (a photo of a current label is ideal). When we confirm the error we fix the page, update its "Checked" date and, for anything that changes the substance of an entry, add a short note saying what changed. We do not quietly rewrite history. Corrections from manufacturers are welcome and are held to the same standard: show us the label or the directory listing, and we will update.

How often entries are reviewed

Every entry shows the date it was last checked, next to the byline. We do not promise a fixed schedule, because a promised schedule is either kept for show or quietly broken. Instead we revisit an entry whenever something material reaches us: a reader report, a price we notice has moved, a reformulation, new research, or a listing that has gone out of stock. Whenever we touch an entry for any reason, we re-open the Amazon listing and re-check the price and count before we save it. If you are relying on a specific number, check the date beside it.

About the byline

"Your Body Insight Editorial Team" is the publisher's byline for everything on the site. We do not put individual names on pages, and we do not claim medical credentials. The entries are researched from the label and the primary literature and are not reviewed by a physician. Read them as careful consumer research, which is what they are.
